best places to shoot in vilnius
1. Old Town Square
The essence of Vilnius Old Town can be experienced at this majestic square in the heart of the city, one of the most important landmarks of the Lithuanian capital.
The square is presided by a monumental Town Hall, an impressive neoclassical building that resembles a sober, minimalist version of the Greek Acropolis.
On the opposite side, a beautiful marble fountain stands near the iconic Vilnius compass, adding a fresher vibe to the whole scene.
2. Basilian Gate
This old fortified gate near the Church of the Holy Trinity is the most impressive example of the Baroque style in Vilnius.
Guarding the monastery compound, the Basilian Gate stands for its majestic architecture and monumental size, taking the attention of each visitor passing by.
Located between the Town Hall Square and the Gates of Dawn, its distinctive baroque design has nothing to envy from the Roman churches in Italy or Spain, making it one of my favorite places to photoshoot close by.
3. Lithuanian Presidential Palace
From a great Baroque example to a neoclassical one: along with the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus, the Lithuanian Presidential Palace meets the features of the best neoclassical architecture in Northern Europe.
Its grandeur can be contemplated from a majestic square in front, which turns into a great location to capture a wide variety of pictures, especially family ones.
Dating back from the 16th century, the premises of the palace house the seat of the Lithuanian government, as well as diplomatic and international meetings.
4. St. Casimir’s Church
A distinctive Baroque church in Vilnius, St. Casimir features a combination of beige and light pink colors that give the building a unique, peaceful vibe.
With a highly ornamented facade guarded by little towers on each side, this Roman Catholic church was named after prince Casimir, son of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania.
A must-visit sight in the Old Town, the Church of St. Casimir is another great place to capture amazing travel pictures on your way to the Town Square.
5. The Glass Quarter
Featuring Antokolskio, Gaono and the iconic Stikliu, the Glass Quarter features some of the best cultural scene in Vilnius Old Town.
This particular “Little Italy” gathers three charming streets that are filled with artsy shops, hipster cafes and vintage restaurants where to enjoy great culinary experiences.
A modern area that extends from the Town Hall Square to the Vilnius University, the Glass Quarter is a great location where to capture fun and spontaneous pictures during your vacation photoshoot.
6. Cathedral Square
The Cathedral Square is the best example of the Roman Catholic heritage in Lithuania and the whole of the Baltic States.
Featuring a 57m. bell tower, the Cathedral of St. Stanislaus is the international symbol of Vilnius, where breath-taking views over the Old Town can be enjoyed from the top of the tower.
Nearby, the Monument to Grand Duke Gediminas presides the centre of the square, guarding the power and glory of the city’s UNESCO world heritage.
7. Palace of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania
Dating back from the medieval times, this neoclassical masterpiece turned into a Renaissance palace on the 16th century that became the official residence of the Grand duchy of Lithuania.
Its big, squared patio in the centre of the Palace is an architectonical gem that combines baroque and neoclassical features.
The historical seat of the Grand Dukes of Lithuania is the second landmark in the Cathedral Square, and a great location where to finish your vacation photoshoot in the Old Town of Vilnius.
